L-Threonine
All livestock depend on a dietary supply of threonine. Threonine is an important building block in the chain of protein synthesis. Being an essential amino acid, threonine is needed in high concentrations in enzymes and hormons.
The content of nutritive available threonine fluctuates in ingredients for feed composition significantly. Especially low in theonine content are grains, therefore diets based on the high grain content may cause the deficency of threonine. In such case, the application of industrialy produced L-Threonine is strongly recommended.
As for L-Threonine, Fermas is one of three producers in the world manufacturing this product.
The product
L-Threonine Feed Grade from Degussa is a crystalline powder with a purity of not less than 98,5% on a dry matter basis.

The EU Feed Legislative Regulation approves L-Threonine from Degussa for all animal species. It can be applied in compound feeds and premixes. The properties of product guarantee for homogeneous mixing.

The application
The latest results of scientific research emphasize a growing importance of threonine application for the nutrition of livestock, especially of piglets and of growing pigs. An amino acid profile for the feed protein, that was developed after a large number of experiments and has been proved successfully in p in ingredients for feed composition ractical feeding, is described as the "Ideal Protein Concept". This concept stipulates the optimal ratio of the essential amino acids for swine. The values are usually given as percentage of the lysine value.
According our best knowledge, the amino acid contents in a pig feed should follow the relative rations given below:

Lysine 100
Threonine 66
Methionine 33
Methionine + cystine 60
Tryptophan 20

The advantages
  • increase in the biological value of the feed protein
  • lower variation in the threonine content of the complete feed
  • optimal formulation of an ideal amino acid profile ratio
  • full utilization of the supplemented L-Threonine Feed Grade
  • possibility of increased use of raw materials low in threonine
  • decrease in nitrogen excretion
  • improved housing conditions by reduced ammonia load
  • reduced enviromental pollution
Production
Since the year 1994, the production per year has been increasing and reached today's plant capacity 4.000 tons per year. Today, we supply about 20-25% of the world market's need.
