History

Though the Fermas history has started to be written only by the end of 1992, it is very rich in events.
  • 1993: startup of test granulation plant for new form of L-Lysine - Biolys and startup of pilot plant for L-Threonine production. October 1994: laying of fundaments for L-Threonine plant with a production capacity of 3.000 tons per year. January 1995: startup of new granulation line for Biolys with the production capacity of 13.000 tons per year. December 1995: startup of test operations of new equipment for L-Threonine production. April 1996: new laboratory opened. March 1998: Fermas receives the award "Exporter of the year" from the Slovak minister of economy. April 1998: startup of test operations for an extended L-Threonine production of 4.500 tons per year. Biotika sells its 49% share in Fermas to Degussa.
  • Fermas receives the award "Company of the year 1998" from the weekly "Trend".

    Fermas has successfully established itself on the world feed market. As for the L-Threonine, Fermas is one of the three major producers in the world manufacturing this product. The products are being sold through Degussa and Biotika, and customers can be found throughout the world - in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, Denmark, Belgium, Holland, Brazil, Australia, Canada etc.

Organisation

Fermas was established in December 1992 and incorporated in companies’ register in January 1993. The shareholders of Fermas were the German company Degussa AG in Frankfurt on the Main (51%) and the slovak Biotika a.s. (49%).

    Degussa brought into the joint venture the financial capital, technology for Lysine production, as well as functional marketing network spread throughout the world.
The Biotika's input into the Joint Venture was material; production fermentors, infrastructure needed for fermentation process and the technology for L-Threonine production.    Totaly more than 75 million DM have been invested into the extension and renewal of the biotechnological plant for the production of feeding additives for animals nutrition. Thus, Degussa became one of the major foreign investors in Slovakia.

    On 30th of October 1998, Biotika sold its shares in Fermas to Degussa, so today Fermas is a 100% subsidiary company of Degussa.

Our People

he most precious investments are, however, our people. Hence, our task is to create the working environment were they can develop their skills, grow professionally and be outstanding together with their firm. It obligates to provide the space for further education to all our people who are willing to extend their professional skills. We expect our people master their jobs, be initiative, creative and team players. We want our people to be proud of their personal and their company's achievement.

Profit

Profit is a long term indicator of our effort and performance. It is the reward obtained for the product or service in the right business environment. We must meet our target - the profit to guarantee the future for all our people, the expected returns to our shareholders, and last but not least, the ability to finance our growth.

Customers

The firm and each single worker must understand the needs of our customers as well as our internal needs, and therefore, to offer the products and services in long term partnership. The result of our effort is the competitive product that can be sold on the demanding world market. Each customer must be given a perfect service regardless wether he or she is a final user or member of our staff from different departments of our firm.
